The Hayner Public Library District is excited to announce a new mystery book club– "Whodunit?"!

The mystery book club is led by Downtown Library Customer Service Manager, Penny Noble, who has been an avid reader of mysteries for many years and wants to share that murderous passion with the library's patrons. 

This book club will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Hayner Alton Square Library. 

Discussions are going to be interesting and lively as participants discuss the good and bad plot-points, writing style of the author, characters who were liked and disliked, and anything else everyone can come up with.

Even if mysteries have never been your favorite genre, this book club is sure to entertain. Be sure to check the library website's Events Calendar for the dates and times of this book club. Share the Joy of Literacy

Did you know that the American Community Survey found that more than 14% of Illinois residents do not have high school diplomas? Did you know that 45% of our residents who speak a language other than English in their homes report that they speak English less than well, or that 19% of Illinois residents could benefit from adult literacy instruction?

Project READ, a volunteer adult literacy program, is looking for volunteer tutors in our area. If you enjoy reading or math or would like to help someone improve their English language skills, it can be incredibly rewarding to serve a community member requesting support in one of those areas.

Our tutoring requirement is that you have at least a high school diploma or GED certificate, be a minimum of 17 years of age, attend a stimulating and informative group training, and have a willingness to share the joy of learning with someone in need for an hour a week.

This project is made possible by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, using funds designated for literacy.

New Function Added to Card Catalog

There is now a new feature available to you on the online card catalog. When you go to the catalog, either from a Hayner computer or from your home, you will now see a tab labeled “Hayner Online Resource Links.” Click on the “+” sign and you can link to all of our databases, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, History at Hayner blog, eReader instructions, and Overdrive (to order eBooks). Remember, when you are accessing these links from your home computer, you will need your Hayner library card.
